McKenzie is for
Year 3 to Year 8 pupils who display extreme social, behavioural, emotional and learning needs which are unable to be met within the resources of their local community.

  • Pupils who have had access to the relevant interventions in their home district without the desired results.
  • Pupils who have the potential to make age-appropriate progress in the New Zealand Curriculum.
  • Pupils who will be likely to adapt to residence in an open institution.
  • Pupils who will adjust to, and benefit from interaction with other pupils in residence.
  • Pupils who will respond to structured programmes and routines and would generally be ready to return to their local community within one year of enrolment.
  • Pupils for whom custody and guardianship issues are clearly
  • established.
  • Pupils who live south of a line drawn from New Plymouth to Gisborne.
